Gospel = Good News
The good news is about Jesus Christ and his death, burial, and resurrection for the sins of many.
The Bad News = Man’s enslaved sinful heart and hatred towards God which brings about the wrath and condemnation of Almighty God!
Man’s Hopeless State = God’s righteous judgment is against the sinner for their sins. They can do NOTHING on their own to change or merit the punishment of God’s wrath against them. They’re helpless!
The Content of the Gospel = Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh lived a perfect life without any sin and was thus able to become a sin sacrifice to God for all who would and did believe. Jesus took on the sins of many and suffered the full penalty for their sins which was God’s wrath! Through this act Jesus purchased a people for himself who otherwise would perish because of their sins. Jesus saved all his sheep from the slaughter by going in their place. Jesus died on the cross and was buried in a tomb, yet he did not stay dead. He rose from the grave defeating sin and death and put to public shame all the powers of darkness! He finished the job he was sent to do and went back to the Father where he LIVES now reigning until he returns to consummate all things!
The Power of the Gospel = That by faith in the finished work of Christ for your sins you receive complete forgiveness making you righteous before God! This is a gift of God and comes by way of grace and mercy. It’s God’s power in saving those who hear and believe. It’s good news to a broken sinner’s ears.
How it’s applied = Regeneration or new birth by which the Holy Spirit causes the sinner to see their sinfulness and condemnation before a holy God. He then shows them the glorious cross of Christ and his work upon it as specific for them and their sins. He grants them faith to believe that Jesus died for their sins and made them holy before God. He causes repentance from their old mindset, behavior, wickedness, and hatred towards God and exchanges it for a love, zeal, and holiness to glorify Him! The believer then lives for Jesus by the power of the Spirit producing good works and proclaiming the praises of Him who called them out of darkness into the Kingdom of light.
The Benefits = Freedom from sin’s power and rule in the believer’s life. Freedom from Satan’s wicked lies that once held them captive. A new heart, nature, and mind now controlled by the Spirit. All the riches that are in Christ Jesus: complete forgiveness of sins, right standing before God, adoption into the family of God, eternal security, perseverance over the world, sin, and Satan until they make it home to glory. Joy, peace, hope, love, kindness, self-control, goodness, faithfulness, holiness and more are what come from the gospel!
